The VERNEY speed sailing project encompasses a number of the very latest technologies, from advanced composite materials and manufacturing techniques, to super realistic computer simulations of the complex physical behaviour experienced by the v-44.
These simulations involve both Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for the aerodynamic and hydrodynamic design and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for the structural design. Both of these techniques are combined to carry out a full Fluid / Structure Interaction (FSI) simulation.
